One very effective way to lower carbon footprints is to
drive all electric vehicles (EVs) and to power the EVs with
solar power, essentially reducing CO2 emmissions to zero.
We can further reduce our carbon footprint by powering our
homes with solar power.
COMMUNITY SOLAR
Can I Do Community Solar?

Is Solar Out Of The Question For Your Household?
Not so fast. Your home may not be suitable for rooftop solar.
But that doesn't mean that you're shut out from renewable
energy. Community solar gardens [farms] offer homeowners and
renters like you-the 90 million American households that
cannot access rooftop solar-the ability to enroll in a
shared solar array and see savings on their electricity
costs. And it does this without the additional fees and
without you needing to own a suitable rooftop (or piece of
property).
Community Solar Basics
https://www.energy.gov/eere/solar/community-solar-basics
The U.S. Department of Energy defines community solar as any
solar project or purchasing program, within a geographic
area, in which the benefits of a solar project flow to
multiple customers such as individuals, businesses,
nonprofits, and other groups. In most cases, customers are
benefitting from energy generated by solar panels at an
off-site array.
Community solar customers can either buy or lease a portion
of the solar panels in the array, and they typically receive
an electric bill credit for electricity generated by their
share of the community solar system-similar to someone who
has rooftop panels installed on their home. Community solar
can be a great option for people who are unable to install
solar panels on their roofs because they don't own their
homes, have insufficient solar resources or roof conditions
to support a rooftop PV system due to shading, roof size, or
other factors, or for financial/other reasons.
Community solar is rapidly growing across the country. The
National Renewable Energy Laboratory tracks installation
data on community solar across the country.

Where are community solar projects located?
Community solar projects are located in various states
throughout the country. However, you're typically only
eligible to subscribe to projects located near you in your
electricity service territory. This is because your utility
company remains responsible for tracking and distributing
electricity bill credits from the community solar projects.

The National Community Solar Partnership (NCSP) is a
coalition of community solar stakeholders working to expand
access to affordable community solar to every American
household and enable communities to realize other benefits,
such as increased resilience and workforce development. The
Partnership is a U.S. Department of Energy initiative led by
the Solar Energy Technologies Office, in collaboration with
the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Lawrence
Berkeley National Laboratory. Partners leverage peer
networks and technical assistance resources to set goals and
overcome barriers to expanding community solar access.
